Understanding What Drug Addiction Really Is
As few as 10 years ago, with the decreasing popularity of cocaine, national surveys documented encouraging trends towards decreased drug abuse and there seemed to be a glimmer of light (hope) at the end of the tunnel. Shortly thereafter, heroin made a comeback and worked its way into mainstream America, especially with the numbers of drug addicts among youth and unfortunately it is still going strong. Then came Methamphetamine, Ecstasy, Club Drugs, and a host of prescription drugs, all of which are highly addictive.
Drug addiction is a subject that is hard to define and has long been debated within the professional and medical circles and in society in general. What is Addiction? According to Webster’s Dictionary it is: “1.The quality or state of being addicted.” For the purposes of clarification we will use the definition of addiction given by Fisher & Harrison (1), it is defined as: “Compulsion to use alcohol or other drugs regardless of negative or adverse consequences.” Once an individual arrives at this stage of the game, there is a slight to zero chance he or she can successfully turn around on their own volition, and will in fact need help, assistance, guidance, and drug rehabilitation or more commonly referred to as “drug rehab” to achieve sobriety and stay sober. If they do not receive successful rehabilitation at one of many drug rehabs in Malibu, CA, at this point, they will continue to move backwards in life and will most likely manage to get themselves in a structured environment that physically removes them from the drug so they cannot continue killing themselves.

Drug detox doesn’t have to hurt. In fact, it shouldn’t hurt—not if it’s administered by competent and compassionate experts at a private drug rehab center. And let there be no confusion about what’s at stake. The fact of the matter is that gentle and pain-free drug detox will change your life. Under the circumstances, you simply can’t afford not to discover that truth on your own terms.
An effective drug detox program will help you break the physiological bonds of drug addiction, and prepare you to meet the challenges of your primary drug treatment program. The catch, of course, is that drug detox can only succeed if it’s administered the right way, by people who know exactly what they’re doing. The right drug detox center will quite literally change your life. Here’s hoping you’ll be wise enough to recognize it when you find it.
