Drug addiction is an outgrowth of human nature
Drug addiction doesn’t really “start” anywhere. It’s tempting to believe that there’s a Source: some moment at which addiction became real, some seed from which addiction first sprang. But that’s not how it works. The truth, if you really want to know, is that we’re all, always, Addicts. Every last one of us…even if we’ve never touched drugs or tasted alcohol in our lives.
Drug addiction is an outgrowth of human nature. That’s not to excuse addiction, or to imply that it isn’t a big deal; it’s just to state the facts. We’re pleasure-seekers, we homo sapiens, creatures conditioned by millions of years of evolution to do what feels good.
And drug use, for the record, feels good.
Too good, actually; better than anything our so-very-declicate brains are equipped to handle. People get addicted because they’re hard-wired for it, because the capacity for addiction is programmed into their neurological mainframes. So maybe there is a Source for addiction, when you really get down to it.
And maybe that Source is U

Every alcohol rehab patient is looking for something. Peace. Power. Wisdom. Me, I was just looking for myself. And when I found it, well…
Let’s just say I’m glad I had alcohol rehab experts there to help me make sense of the thing.
Alcohol rehab is never easy. That should be obvious, I suppose; alcohol rehab that works is alcohol treatment that helps you get down into the guts of your alcohol addiction…and the guts of addiction is never a pleasant place to be. Anyone who checks into an alcohol rehab center expecting anything other than one mother of a fight is in for a very rude kind of awakening.
The good news, of course, is that alcohol rehab programs really do work: Alcohol rehab patients really do get better, provided they get the help they need from competent alcohol rehab professionals. I was one of the lucky ones; I got that help, and it made all the difference in the world. For your own sake, make today the day you start finding out the truth for yourself.

You never really beat substance abuse. At best, you learn how to manage it, how to live with all the voices in your head screaming at you to use. Substance abuse, after all, is the product of an underlying disease…and your only hope for lasting recovery lies is making peace with yourself, and with your need, and with all those demons that would drive you to ruin, if you made the mistake of caving to their demands.
Make no mistake: Substance abuse treatment can help you get sober. Believe me, I know how distant a prospect substance abuse recovery can seem. I’ve been there: buried in the depths of substance abuse, figuring that nothing I did could ever make a lick of difference. But it can. It really can. Substance abuse treatment made a world of difference for me. If you give it a chance, it can do the same thing for you.
One important caveat: Substance abuse treatment can’t do anything for you until you let it. Every journey starts with a first step. If you’re going to get better, you’ve got to have the courage to admit that you need help, that you can’t beat substance abuse on your own. The day you check into a drug treatment center can be the best day of your life. All you’ve got to do is have the faith to take the plunge.
